How to install ubuntu without having to burn a cd

Well this is a little but usefull how to,
i first have to say, in my opinion if you are to try ubuntu, well do the partitioning and install it on an ext3 partition, but for those that are not sure, and that are posibly afraid of damaging their HDD, this is a great option, even for people that have one of the new netbooks that come without a cd-rom. first you have to do is to download an Ubuntu disk image, at www.ubuntu.com when you are done with that, lets mount the image using your virtual drives manager, i personaly use power iso, but there are many, such as daemon tools, or alkohol 120, once you did that, get the wubi ubuntu installer at http://wubi-installer.org/. execute the installer, choose the ubuntu desktop, how much space you want to give to your ubuntu installation, give a username and password and click ok. the installer will recognize your mounted ubuntu image, will charge all the needed files, and once ready will tell you to restart your pc, and that was it. you now see, after restarting, a windows xp/vista and below it a ubuntu option. choose ubuntu and you´ll be able to enjoy this very famous linux distro. you might have to give information about your hardware, such as monitor resolution, or graphic card, but not always, that´s depending on your hardware. have a good day |
